The first teaser for Lanterns, the upcoming Green Lantern series from DC Studios, sparked a massive debate online. Some fans are calling it terrible, while others say people are overreacting.
In this clip from one of my Patreon livestreams, I break down the backlash and why the internet conversation around the Lanterns trailer has become so polarized. On one side, people claim the trailer ruined Green Lantern. On the other side, some argue fans shouldn’t expect classic Green Lantern action because the show was always pitched as a True Detective-style investigation.
But the reality probably sits somewhere in the middle. It’s reasonable for fans to want at least a glimpse of classic Green Lantern action, constructs, or the iconic look of the characters. At the same time, it’s way too early to claim the show is doomed based on a teaser.
Let’s talk about why the Lanterns trailer has people so divided and where the reasonable middle ground actually is.
