7 months abroad showed me first-hand the power of English to bring people together 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼 it’s all about connection 🫶🏼

I’d love to hear your experiences of when English helped you connect with someone from a non-English speaking country. Where were you? How did it help you? How did you feel?

*side note - I did try to respect the local languages and learn some of the local phrases when abroad like ‘genki des ka’ in 🇯🇵 ‘terima kasih’ in 🇮🇩 and ‘m’goi’sai’ in 🇭🇰

While English is the lingua Franca for many people around the world, it’s important we cherish and respect every language. As someone from an English speaking country, I recognise my privilege to be able to travel around the world and be able to speak my mother tongue with so many people. I speak more about this in future posts but for now I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Sending hugs from London,
Teacher Tom
