I recently discovered the Polari first book prize and wanted to share my thoughts on the panel's choices.

•Trans Mission: My Quest to a Beard – Alex Bertie (Wren & Rook)
•Mussolini’s Island – Sarah Day (Tinder Press)
• Pansy Boy - Paul Harfleet (Barbican)
• Carnivore - Jonathan Lyon (HQ)
• Elmet – Fiona Mozley (John Murray)
•Little Gold – Allie Rogers (Legend Press)
Judges for the 2018 prize are author, journalist and host of Polari Literary Salon, chair Paul Burston; author and former Head of Literature & Spoken Word at the Southbank, Rachel Holmes; author, performer and writing coach Karen McLeod; author and comedian, VG Lee; and playwright, actor and producer, Alexis Gregory.
I also discussed the 'Peg Approach' created by the wonder READING and KNITTING On the Porch
she create a 25 point judging system for fiction gives 5 points each for:
1 PLOT - complexity, use of time, linearity, believability 2.CHARACTERS -real seeming, morally ambiguous, dialogue, point of view
3.SETTING - How conjured up, atmosphere, importance to plot 4.WRITING QUALITY- Are there passages I want to reread? Learning from p. 112 tag
5.MY READING ENJOYMENT- Totally subjective!
