I discovered "Fairytale of New York" just a few years ago (I didn't grow up in an English-speaking country), and it has become one of my favorite Christmas songs since.

What makes it so moving, I think, is that it's a song about failure and shattered dreams. About lonely people who sit in a pub on Christmas Eve, knowing it might just be their last one.
People who are angry and disappointed, who hurl insults at each other and reopen old wounds.
And yet they feel that they aren't alone in their failure, that they share the pain.

"Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you"

With this piano tutorial & sheet music, you can play "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues on the piano!

It's an accurate, carefully created piano arrangement of the famous Christmas song.

Written by Jem Finer and Shane MacGowan, "Fairytale of New York" is a beautiful Irish folk ballad. The Pogues recorded it together with Kirsty MacColl, and included it on their 1988 album "If I Should Fall from Grace with God".

Released as a single in November 1987, "Fairytale of New York" became one of the most popular Christmas songs in the UK (some consider it to be the best Christmas song of all time).

It's certainly not your typical feel-good Christmas song - it covers issues like alcoholism and drug abuse, wrecked dreams, and comes with quite a few slurs and swear words.
At the same time, it's also a song with an honest message of love and hope, and it might just be what one needs to hear during the Christmas season.

In any case, it's a wonderful song to play on the piano. Merry Christmas!
