Between the years 1923 and 1929, approximately 20,000 Mennonites immigrated to Canada from the former Soviet Union / present-day Ukraine and Russia. They settled in rural and urban communities in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. These refugee migrants are often called Russlaender. This year marks the beginning of the centenary of that migration.
