The Phi Top is such a cool science toy! Based of the same principles of Tesla's Egg of Columbus, it is equally easy to enjoy this as an awesome toy, or marvel at the science of eddy currents, Psycho-physics and precession!
So how does this teach about eddy currents? Well eddy currents are loops of electrical currents induced within conductors like aluminum and copper, by a moving magnetic field in the conductor according to the classic Faraday’s law of induction. Eddy currents flow in closed loops within conductors, in planes perpendicular to the magnetic field. This is partially how Tesla got enough funding to be able to defeat Thomas Edison In the War of the Currents!
