After a childhood spent bouncing between farms and small towns in the American Midwest, Per Henningsgaard received his BA from Vassar College in upstate New York. From there, he migrated downstream to New York City, where he worked as an editorial assistant for a multinational publishing house. Then, in 2005, he was awarded a Fulbright Grant based on a proposal to study book publishing and regional literature in Western Australia. A planned twelve-month stay in Australia was extended when he was offered a scholarship to enrol in a postgraduate program and continue his research under its auspices. Per received his PhD in 2009 from The University of Western Australia. He returned to the United States later that same year to take a job as assistant professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he directed a student-staffed publishing house, Cornerstone Press. In 2012, Per joined the staff at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, as assistant professor of English and director of the master's degree in book publishing, which is home to yet another student-staffed publishing house, Ooligan Press. Finally, in 2017, he pulled up stakes for Perth and a job as lecturer in professional writing and publishing at Curtin University. Per is an IPEd Accredited Editor.
