Is South Dakota on your bucket list? Most people think "Mount Rushmore" and stop there. But the Black Hills region is so much more; it’s where the rugged Badlands meet the granite outcroppings of the high country.
If you have 4 days, here is the perfect "no-stress" loop:
📍 Day 1: The Otherworldly. Start with the stunning formations of Badlands National Park, stop at the Minuteman Missile NHS for a bit of Cold War history, and visit the new Dahl's Chainsaw Art in Wall, SD.
📍 Day 2: The Icons. Drive the Needles Highway (trust us, the "eye of the needle" is a tight squeeze!), relax at Legion Lake, and catch Mount Rushmore as the sun hits the stone.
📍 Day 3: The Classics. Ride the historic 1880 Train, head underground at Jewel Cave, and end the day with the Bluebell Cookout (the best way to feel like a real western pioneer).
📍 Day 4: The Wild West. Explore the history of Deadwood and finish with the towering limestone walls of Spearfish Canyon.
