Egal, ob romantisch oder verspielt, klassisch oder außergewöhnlich, konservativ oder weltoffen – in der Adventszeit verwandelt sich die Hansestadt mittels zahlreicher Lichter, Lampen und Lametta in ein märchenhaftes Wunderland.
Doch nicht nur auf den Weihnachtsmärkten wird eine besinnliche Stimmung verbreitet: Auch in den umliegenden Kaufhäusern und Cafés, Bars und Restaurants sowie an diversen Veranstaltungsorten wird das Thema Weihnachten aufgegriffen und in unterschiedlicher Form – meist dekorativ wie inhaltlich – umgesetzt. Deshalb haben wir einen Blick hinter die Kulissen des weihnachtlichen Hamburgs geworfen, um die Menschen besser kennenzulernen, die sich speziell für die Adventszeit besondere Highlights in der Hansestadt ausgedacht haben.

The Christmas market in Hamburg boasts a tradition that goes back many centuries: by the end of November at the latest, all of the wooden huts, mulled-wine stalls and rows of toy sellers open their portals to get visitors in the mood for the approaching family festival. In the Advent period, the Hanseatic city transforms itself into a fairytale wonderland with the help of copious lights, lamps and tinsel – whether the effect is romantic or playful, classical or out of the ordinary, conservative or cosmopolitan.
But the Christmas markets are not the only places where the prevailing mood is a pleasantly contemplative one: in the surrounding shops and department stores, too, as well as in the cafés, bars and restaurants and at a diversity of event venues, the subject of Christmas is taken up largely in a diversity of forms regarding both decoration and content. This prompted us to take a look behind the scenes of festive Hamburg to get better acquainted with the people who have devised special highlights in the city specifically for Advent.
