Culley Davis just wanted a cover for his book. That's it.
He'd been staring at an 8-foot board covered in paintings of the Savior for years trying to figure it out. Finally had an idea — use the hand of Christ on the cross. Found a 100-year-old timber, got a nail model, shot the photos. Then his artist told him: 77% of women won't buy a book with a cross on the cover. Back to zero.
Three weeks later, somewhere out past Camp Williams on a solo bike ride, everything changed. He had to stop, clip out, and fall to his knees on the side of the road. What he heard in that moment became the painting you see behind us — "Within Your Grasp."
A few weeks after the artist finished it, Culley gets a call. It's President Russell M. Nelson's office. The prophet had been looking through hundreds of images for his Easter message and wanted this one. It ran as the full-page image in the April 2020 Liahona. Then President Oaks wanted it. Then a mega church in Bosnia with 100,000 members. Then a nun in Quebec who printed 50,000 door hangers and saw a 37% jump in church attendance.
All of that from a painting Culley never planned to share publicly.
