William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens and Thomas Woolner. The leaked their existence at the Royal Academy of Arts' Summer Exhibition by signing their paintings with P.R.B. after their names. Charles Dickens wrote a screed calling their work "mean, odious, repulsive, and revolting." They hated "slosh," a term they coined based upon the name of the founder of the Academy, Sir Joshua Reynolds, who they called "Sir Sloshua."
