A common misconception: the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was meant to be fired from the shoulder.

In reality, World War I and II military leaders designed it to be fired from a special sling with a hip cup, allowing walking fire. The concept didn’t go as planned, and heavy losses quickly proved the idea’s limits.
