In the '30s, it was about tailoring engines to the mining environment itself. In the '50s, Cummins released the Pressure Time (PT) fuel system, still legendary in mining circles today. The '70s and '80s brought the K-Series and a new generation of mechanically controlled engines. Then in the '90s and 2000s, electronic controls changed everything, giving rise to the QSK19, QSK38, and QSK60, engines that remain the core of Cummins' mining business, alongside Tier 4 emissions compliance.
In 2022, that lineage led to the QSK95, the most powerful engine in mining: 4,400 horsepower at 1,800 RPM, running in copper mines across Latin America today. And in 2025, the acquisition of First Mode is accelerating diesel hybrid technology for the next hundred years.
