The shooting occurred around 12:20 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time while Charlie Kirk was on stage participating in a “Prove Me Wrong” debate as part of his American Comeback Tour.
He was shot once in the neck and later died at the hospital.
The shot was fired from a nearby rooftop, approximately 142 to 200 yards away. Authorities determined it was a bolt-action rifle, caliber .30-06.
About 3,000 people were attending the event.
Law enforcement is treating the incident as a targeted attack or political assassination.
A manhunt is ongoing. Authorities recovered the suspected weapon in a wooded area and released photos and footage of a person of interest fleeing the scene, but no suspect has been arrested yet.
