The official State Flag of Kansas was adopted on March 21, 1927. Interest in adopting a state flag grew in the early 20th century, though not everyone was on board. While several designs were considered by the state legislature, none went all the way. A state banner was adopted in 1925 as a sort of compromise, though it was widely criticized. The debate soon came to a close in 1927, with the adoption of the official state flag.
