The Odyssey takes a 2800 year old story and turns it into the biggest summer blockbuster of 2026, once again proving that Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest directors of our time. I like what it gave us, and I want more. If you had told me that this was the beginning of a cinematic universe, I would be seated before they even started shooting the sequel. This movie feels like it came out in the wrong era. It reminds me of an older style of filmmaking, like the first Gladiator meeting Percy Jackson’s mythology. While I could go on, what I wanna talk about is how 2026’s The Odyssey takes regular people and makes them feel like legends, makes gods feel like gods, and how Eternals… fails at both. Now I know what you're thinking: how do you watch The Odyssey and think of Eternals? And the answer is, I wanna compare how these movies use mythos and ethos in their story telling and how it shaped the world and where one succeeded and the other failed
