En route to Ithaca Odysseus and his men meet with terrible storms conjured by the Sea God Poseidon who was angry at the destruction of Troy. The storms drive Odysseus’ fleet to the island of the Ciccones – a clan of fierce warriors who had fought against the Greeks in the Trojan war. Many of Odysseus’ men are killed, but with the help of the goddess Athena, he manages to escape the island with a few ships and men. However again he encounters vicious storms, this time landing on the shores of the Island of Lotus Eaters. Unfortunately, Odysseus’ men join the inhabitants in their lotus-eating and, like the inhabitants, become drunk and refuse to go home. With much difficulty, Odysseus finally manages to drag them back to the ships to continue their journey to Ithaca.
