Criminal Record | The Notorious Richardson Brothers: Their Rise and Fall @CriminalRecord_ | Uploaded August 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Charlie and Eddie Richardson were two infamous South London criminal brothers who created a reputation for themselves in the 1960s by controlling one of the UK's most feared and brutal criminal organizations.
They began by operating a scrap metal business as a front for their money-making plans. Extortion, protection rackets, gambling, and even bank robberies were added to their criminal enterprise over time. Torture and brutality were used to enforce the Richardson gang's will, which was one of its distinguishing characteristics.
Their gang was notorious for utilizing mock trials to torment and terrify their victims, an ordeal dubbed "taking a shirt from Charlie." The brothers were supposed to offer their victims a clean shirt to wear home because the original would be drenched in blood, demonstrating the cruelty of their tactics.
Charlie Richardson was arrested for grievous bodily harm on July 30, 1966, the day of the World Cup Final, and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Eddie Richardson was sentenced to five years in prison for affray and later another 10 years was added in his punishment. Following a series of raids in South London, police arrested the remaining members of the Richardson gang in July 1966.
