On the night between November 12th and 13th, 2019, the ancient and beautiful city Venice very nearly drowned. Hundreds of businesses were destroyed. Even the ancient crypt of St. Mark's Cathedral was underwater. It was the worst flood since the Great Flood of 1966, which set in motion a worldwide effort to save the ancient city from the dual threats of sinking land and rising sea levels.
