Nanlite just announced the two most powerful lights they’ve ever made, and one is the most powerful bi-color LED light in the world. The new Nanlite Forza 720 and 720B aren’t just about power, though. Every aspect of their design has been optimized to make them truly useful production tools — whether you need maximum brightness to create artificial sunshine or a much more subtle, finely tuned amount of light, both the 720 and the 720B can be your go-to light for every shoot.
These lights share many similarities, but the main difference is the 720 has a daylight-balanced 5600K output, while the 720B is bi-color with a variable CCT range of 2700-6500K. The output is immense with the 720 delivering 23,300 lux (2164.6 fc) at 2 meters with its included reflector. This reading is at 2 meters because the 720 was too bright for our equipment to measure at 1 meter. The 720B at the same distance set to 5600K delivers 18,270 lux (1697.3 fc). If the utmost power is what you need, the 720 is over 20% brighter. If the versatility of bi-color is more appealing, the 720B is still incredibly bright when you need it.
Both lights feature a standard Bowens mount which means they’re compatible with a vast number light modifiers, including the Nanlite PJ-BM Projector — which is an excellent companion for these spot lights as you can see in the video. The yoke features a single-sided locking mechanism which makes it easier to position, and the rosette-free design lets you precisely aim the beam. The base of the yoke features a mount that’s compatible with both junior and baby pins, so they’re ready to be put on regular light stands and C-stands.
The Control Units feature V-Mount battery plates on the sides for easy access, and when you’re running on batteries in the field, both the 720 and 720B deliver an impressive amount of power. Using two 26V batteries the 720 can provide 70% of its max output, while the 720B can do 65%. Both lights can plug into standard AC outlets for operation as well. A sturdy quick-release clamp is included for mounting the Control Unit, as well as a 16.4 foot (5 meter) cable to connect to the head, so you can really put these light up high.
2.4G and Bluetooth are built-in, which means you can directly control these lights with the NANLINK mobile app for iOS and Android, as well as use them with the WS-TB-1 Transmitter Box for more elaborate scenes when you also want to control PavoTubes, PavoBulbs and other lights wirelessly. Both the heads and Control Units feature durable metal construction, so they’re ready for the rough world of professional production.
