This summer, we secretly joined a team of Mercedes engineers at their heat-testing facility near Phoenix, Arizona, for a ride with the all-new smart electric drive family. Almost every aspect of the 453-series smart EV has been vastly improved: range, power, speed, charging time, ride comfort and usability. The desert run stresses every component of the car way beyond its common use scenario, but primarily puts the air conditioning for passengers and the reliability of the overall cooling systems to the test.
We were quite impressed by the fourth generation smart electric drive, which for the first time also comes as a 5-door smart forfour. We hope you enjoy our thorough report and tech talk with the developers!
