A hidden gem from the Prestige label is back — and it sounds better than ever.

Originally recorded in 1964 but unreleased until 1968, The New Folk Sound of Terry Callier introduced a Chicago singer-songwriter who would later bridge folk, soul, and jazz with unmatched grace.

In this video, I revisit Callier’s remarkable debut — newly reissued by Craft Recordings on 180-gram vinyl — exploring its history, its sound, and its place in one of the most quietly brilliant careers in American music.

Highlights:
• Recorded 1964, released 1968 on Prestige (Bluesville series)
• Sparse instrumentation — just voice, guitar, and two basses
• All-analog mastering by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab
• Plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings
• Series overseen by Chad Kassem
• Exceptional high-gloss tip-on jacket by Stoughton Printing

The New Folk Sound of Terry Callier proves that soul doesn’t always need a rhythm section — sometimes, one voice and one guitar can say it all.
