Ancient Architects | The Mystery of the Green Stone of Hattusa ❇️ @AncientArchitects | Uploaded February 2023 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
Located in the ancient Hittite capital of Hattusa in Turkey, a city build around 1344 BC, is this mysterious large green stone. Legends say its magical, locals call it the wish stone, some call it a sacred altar, but what do we actually know? The fact is, not a lot.
The stone is located in what was once the great temple of the city, but not in the centre of a great hall or communal area, no, it was found inside a temple store room. It’s a large chunk of serpentine or a nephrite and some believe it was a gift to the Hittites by Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses the Great.
So, it could have been a Hittite sacred object, stored away for safe keeping, or it could have simply been an unwanted gift. Learn more on the Ancient Architects YouTube channel.
