Only 7 of them are known and the most recently discovered one has added to the mystery of what they are. I’m talking about Luminous Fast Blue Optical Transients or LFBOTs. As the name suggests, they’re bursts of extraordinarily bright light, mostly in the blue part of the spectrum. They resemble supernovae but are 10 to 100 times brighter and more short-lived, rising and fading in a matter of days rather than weeks or months.
