This next movie car is built by a grandpa, but not any grandpa.. this grandpa! Yes, his creation is to die for. This iconic machine was built for one episode of The Munsters and it was designed by, you could probably guess by, now George Barris. It features a 350 horsepower, 289 engine, backed by a three-speed manual transmission. This baby sounds as mean as it looks. In the show, Herman Munster lost the Munster Koach in a race, so Dragula was put together by Grandpa Munster to be entered into the race to win the Munster Koach back. When George Barris came up with the idea to use a real casket for the hot rod, he had no idea that no one would sell him a casket, unless he had a death certificate (for proof of death). Barris finally found a funeral home that had a broken casket in the corner, but the owner still would not sell it. He put some money in an envelope and left it on the counter and went for a walk with the funeral director. While he was going for a walk, Barris’s guys picked up the casket and walked out. They literally “spooked off” with the casket. A total of five authentic Barris Drag-u-Las were built. One for TV use, the others for promotional use. This is car #5, and the most authentic in existence, even more authentic than the recently restored TV screen-used car! He tried to keep it as authentic as possible, and with that comes a three-speed manual transition - with no brake pedal. All there was was a parking brake, a clutch, and a gas pedal. Oh, and a desk fan for air conditioning. It's crazy that this car only aired in one episode, 60 years ago, and is still iconic and influential so much that Rob Zombie wrote a song about it… and recently just produced, directed, and wrote a new Munsters movie for Netflix. Thank you so much for watching, I hope you're still sharing these videos and tomorrow I have an all-time classic for you. Why was doctor Frankenstein never lonely? He was good at making friends.
