☙❦❧ ☙❦❧ ☙❦❧
The most unknown of all Vedic birth charts, is the Caturāṁśa.
It splits each zodiac sign, into four equal parts.
Which reveals a geometry of fourths - that opens a window into the themes of the fourth house.
(This shows us your Guṇa and Varṇa).
Guṇa - archetypal qualities from which your heart is built.
Varṇa - archetypal behavior that satisfies your heart, and makes you feel content and fulfilled.
☙❦❧ ☙❦❧ ☙❦❧
To draw your caturāṁśa start with a regular zodiac wheel and split each sign into four equal parts.
There are no zodiac signs in this chart. Instead, there are four divinities: Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Śiva, and Sūrya.
In male signs, they go in that order.1st division of every male sign belongs to Brahmā.
2nd: Viṣṇu.
3rd: Śiva.
4th: Sūrya.
In female signs, the order is reversed.1st division of every female sign belongs to Sūrya.
2nd: Śiva.
3rd: Viṣṇu.
4th: Brahmā.
☙❦❧ ☙❦❧ ☙❦❧
Now we have the Chart template.
To interpret it
we first need to know what its four divinities symbolize.
Brahmā
rajo-sattva
Creativity. Passion. ( the "guṇa" that builds your heart.)
Activities to satisfy your heart:Romance. Children. Art. Design. Building. Gardening.
Viṣṇu
sattva
Clarity. Preservation.
Clarify. Show. Explain.
Observe. Organize. Clean. Maintain.
Śiva
tamas
Elimination. Termination.
Deconstruct. Disconnect. End. Remove. Forget. Sleep.
Sūrya
rajo-tamas
Strength. Power.
Career. Exercise. Enforce. Compete. Acquire.
Each of the varṇas of each of the deities
has a classical name as well:
vaiṣya, brāhmaṇa, śūdra, & kṣatriya.
☙❦❧ ☙❦❧ ☙❦❧
Now that we know what the four caturāṁśa divinities symbolise, we just need to place your planets into the chart.
To do that
take a normal zodiac wheel of your birth chart.
and just include the four divisions on that wheel.
Next draw four squares for the chaturāṁśa chart.
One for each divinity.
And then place your planets in it.
☙❦❧ ☙❦❧ ☙❦❧
Now let's make some interpretations. This simplest way to get a ballpark interpretation, as always, is to just look at the ascendant.
Leonardo da Vinci's ascendant is in Brahmā's quarter.
So, his heart is made from creativity and passion.
He finds contentment and fulfillment by expressing that.
Other people with their ascendant in Brahmā's quarter include:
Priyanka Chopra
Angelina Jolie
Harrison Ford
Marilyn Monroe's ascendant is in Viṣṇu's quarter.
So she finds contentment and fulfillment
by showing, revealing, clarifying.
Since it is her ascendant, she needs to show her self, especially her body.
Others:
Traci Lords
Prince
Elvis
John Lennon's ascendant is in Śiva's quarter
So he seeks fulfillment by Elimination and Termination.
(eliminating social wrongs. disconnecting and setting himself apart from mainstream ethics, politics, and religion).
Others:
Sigmund Freud
Donatella Versace
Jeffrey Dahmer
Donald Trump's ascendant is in Sūrya's quarter
So his heart craves strength and power
and he dedicates his activities to acquisition of power and wealth.
Others:
Adolf Hitler
Charles Manson
Ted Bundy
☙❦❧ ☙❦❧ ☙❦❧
But, as with any chart
its overly simplistic
to look at the ascendant alone.
We always need to look at the whole chart,
and the caturāṁśa is no exception to this rule.
To do this,
we need to know how to assess dignity
*
There are no zodiac signs in this chart
so dignity comes from how comfortable
a planet is in the the guṇa of its quarter.
Every planet has an inherent guṇa
(quality of heart)
The Sun, a kṣatrīya, has a heart of rajo-tamas
passion for strength and power.
The Moon, a vaiṣya, has a rajo-sattva heart
loving creativity and emotion
Jupiter, a brāhmaṇa, has a sattva heart
inclined to clarify and explain.
Saturn, a śūdra, has a tamas heart
comforted by eliminating and terminating.
Like the sun, Mars too is a kṣatriya.
Like the moon, Mercury is a vaiṣya
Like jupiter, Venus is a brāhmaṇa
Like saturn, Rāhu, is (giving him the benefit of the doubt) a śūdra
Planet have full dignity
when they are in the quarter of their own guṇa.
And less dignity
the further they are from it.
