The story follows four Black Vietnam vets -- Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Melvin(Isiah Whitlock, Jr.), and Eddie (Norm Lewis) -- who reunite in the country where they once fought. Their goal is to find a stash of gold that they buried back during the war, at the behest of their commanding officer, Stormin' Norman (Chadwick Boseman). What they don't anticipate is that they aren't the only ones who know about the gold. As that heist story plays out, the movie makes some serious points about the important roleof African-Americans in the Vietnam War.
Da 5 Bloods was directed by Spike Lee, the Oscar-winning filmmaker of BlacKkKlansman, Do the Right Thing, and Malcolm X. He co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Willmott, Danny Bilson, and Paul De Meo. The supporting cast includes Jean Reno as an exporter the guys hire to ship the gold back home, and Jonathan Majors as Paul's son David.
