This has to be one of my favourite WW2 stories...On the 12th September 1943, a daring raid by the German Luftwaffe sought to rescue the deposed Italian Dictator, Benito Mussolini, from his mountain top prison. The raid would catch the allied forces off guard and rob the new Italian government of a valuable prisoner, whilst providing a valuable propaganda win. In today’s video, we will cover the raid in the Gran Sasso Mountains.
