If there is ONE design principle that can make or break a room the moment you walk into it... it is focal point. And I genuinely believe it is one of the most underused and misunderstood principles in home decorating. 😬🏡
Your focal point is the very first thing your eye lands on when you walk into a room. It sets the entire tone and intention of the space before you have even had a chance to look at anything else. When a focal point is done WELL it creates this incredible wow moment that makes a room feel designed and intentional and beautiful. But when it is done poorly... or worse, when there is no focal point at all... you walk into a room and something just feels OFF. You cannot quite put your finger on it but the room never quite pulls together no matter what you do to it. That feeling right there is almost always a focal point problem. ✨
Your focal point could be a fireplace, a stunning piece of art, a beautiful window, an accent wall or even a gorgeous piece of furniture. The key is that it needs to be intentional and everything else in the room needs to support it and point back to it. Once you understand how to identify and design a focal point your rooms will never feel aimless again.
I teach you exactly how to determine your focal point and design around it in The Seasoned Home, my brand new course launching this September. Get on the early bird waitlist now at RebeccaRobeson.com so you are first to know when doors open. 🏡
So tell me, do you know what the focal point is in your living room right now? Drop it in the comments 👇
