Pobeda Peak. Also known as Jengish Chokusu. At 7439 Metres or 24406 feet tall, you might never have heard of the highest mountain in Kyrgyzstan, but in the mountaineering world, it is infamous. It is the tallest mountain above the 39th parallel north, and one of the most remote mountains on earth. So, despite being 500m shy of the fabled 8000m mark, the conditions here can be just as bad. As far north as it is, the cold is unrelenting, the weather is brutal, and its 7000m sustained ridgeline is infamous. It’s for these reasons that it’s thought that the death-to-summit ratio is as high as roughly one in three. This is comparable to any of the deadliest 8000m peaks. As of today, not a single one of their bodies of those who have died trying has ever been recovered. These are the horrifying incidents of Pobeda Peak, and as always, viewer discretion is advised.
