John L. Sullivan was the most famous sports figure around the world during the 1880's, but by 1892 three contenders posed serious threats to his heavyweight title.

Two of those contenders would meet in early 1892, and the result of this encounter denied the real victor of his chance at that title. The first round is still debated even today.
