In this video we will be walking you through how we built and installed our colorful slatted ceiling.
We started out by gathering our main building materials which consisted of ¼” sande plywood as well as ¼” knotty cedar planks. For our Sprinter 170, we needed 3 sheets of sande plywood and around 5 packs of knotty cedar planks.

We purchased 6 different paints. We purchased 1g of the main off white backer paint and 1q of the 5 different colors we used.
We made our mosaic design using ¾” and ½” painters tape.

We stained all of our planks using Ipswich Pine and then sealed it using a semi-gloss polyurethane.

Then it was time to attach everything together. I would suggest using a marine grade adhesive along with pin nails. You can get a decently priced pin nailer at harbor freight.

Once our ceiling was assembled, we added furring strips to the ceiling of our van. We ended up using 2 ½ x 8 furring strips, but we think you could get away with making your own strips out of ½” birch. We then water proofed the furring strips and attached them using marine grade adhesive as well as self tappers. You can sink your screws using forstner bits if you need to.

Finally we installed the ceiling with the help of some large jack stands, adhesive, and 1” screws
