The Most Beautiful canyon in Zion National Park - The Subway Top Down Route
I love Zion National Park. It has some of the most amazing scenery in the US Southwest. Over the years, I've explored all over the back country in Zion. And I keep coming back to one particular route over and over; the Zion Subway.
Specifically, the top down route. There are two ways to approach the Subway. You can hike in from the bottom up to Keyhole Falls, or you can start up near Lava Point. The bottom up route is non-technical. It ends at the famous subway section. The top down route requires rappelling gear and the knowledge to use it. It's not difficult in most conditions, but it's still a technical canyon.
But oh my god is it worth it. The approach is amazing. And the canyon is absolutely beautiful (and fun) from start to finish. If you only do the bottom up route it's worth it, but you miss a lot of the goods.
