After their splendid conjunction just one week ago, Venus Venus and Jupiter Jupiter — now gradually moving farther apart — will be joined by the Moon Moon, once again visible in the evening sky, appearing particularly close to the first planet.

As the trio moves toward the horizon at sunset, our satellite — adorned with the elegant glow of earthshine — will appear extremely close to Venus, separated by only half a degree. Jupiter will be located about eight degrees west of the other two celestial bodies, adding even more beauty to the scene.

Once the sky becomes dark enough, just slightly east of Venus, a pair of binoculars will allow observers to spot the famous open cluster M44 Messier 44, also known as the Beehive Cluster, in the constellation of Cancer Cancer. About fifteen degrees west of the Moon, the same instrument will also reveal Mercury, noticeably dimmer than it appeared last week.

The Virtual Telescope Project Virtual Telescope Project will livestream this celestial encounter starting at 19:45 UTC of June 17.
