Based on the 1980 short story "The Monkey" by Stephen King, THE MONKEY is written and directed by Osgood Perkins.
King’s short story "The Monkey" is a 1980 tale featuring a cursed cymbal-banging monkey toy. The story was first published in Gallery magazine in 1980. In 1985, after being significantly revised, it was published in King's collection Skeleton Crew in 1985.
The film focuses on twin brothers Hal and Bill who discover their father's old toy monkey in the attic, and soon after, they're surrounded by a series of terrifying deaths. Believing the toy to be cursed, they get rid of it and go their separate ways. Years later, the mysterious deaths start up again, forcing the brothers to reunite and find a way to destroy the haunted toy for good.
The film stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. The score is by composer Edo Van Breemen.
