In 1970, reruns of The Monkees were picked up by CBS for Saturday mornings so Mike, Davy, and Mickey appeared in commercials for the show's sponsor, Kool-Aid. This was 2 years after The Monkees was cancelled by NBC, the group no longer included Peter Tork who had left the band.
Besides these commercials, new Monkees' songs turned up on these Saturday afternoon at 12:30 broadcasts, scheduled to compete with ABC’s American Bandstand. The Monkees did very well in the ratings on Saturdays, reruns continued for years.
Note this commercial co-starring Bugs Bunny (CBS’ biggest Saturday morning star in 1970) was filmed to look like it belonged in an episode of The Monkees. Each commercial in the series with Bugs Bunny began with a variation of, ”What's up, doc?" but there were other spots filmed with just The Monkees, again to appear to be part of the episode.
