Ocarina of Time certainly needs no introduction. Nintendo's big 1998 release is to this day still regarded by many as not just one of, but rather THE best video game of all time. To cover it in this age is to add your voice to the cacophony of thousands, but what finally convinced me to do so was sharing the experience with my own children namely my oldest daughter. You only get to play a game for the 1st time once, but seeing her play through it was probably as close as I'll get to going through it for the 1st time again.
It was fascinating to see someone struggle with mechanics and controls I'd known for years but it gave me a deep appreciation for NIntendo's craft when it comes to making video games and designing them in such a way that they teach you to play it without you even knowing it. I'm not saying the game doesn't have an odd tutorial thrown in here and there but you won't find many Rockstar style tutorial missions in OOT. Let me rephrase. They are there but its done in such a way that you don't know you're doing it.
Either way join me as I walk back through a true classic yet again, but this time with insight from a 1st timer.
I know most of you don't need another playthrough of OOT so I've included stamps below if you want to skip around, but I would encourage anyone who's interested in the idea of what OOT does to teach the player to stick around and plough through. Cause even 30 years later OOT still has a lot to teach us about game design.
