The Mandalorian (also known as Star Wars: The Mandalorian) is an American television series created by Jon Favreau and produced by Lucasfilm. It is distributed on the Disney + streaming platform from 12 November 2019, the launch date of the service in the United States.
It is the first live action television series set in the Star Wars universe. The events take place about five years after those narrated in the film Return of the Jedi and 25 years before those of The Awakening of the Force. The protagonist is Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter who operates beyond the borders of the New Republic. The executive producers of the series are Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Favreau is also showrunner and lead writer.
The first season, consisting of eight episodes, was positively received by critics and audiences. It also received a Best Drama TV Series nomination at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards and won seven Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
The series has been renewed for a second season which premiered on October 30, 2020. A third season, in development since April 2020, was confirmed in December 2020.
