Wayne Wheeler was a man on a mission.
As leader of the Anti-Saloon League, he was determined to rid the US of the scourge of alcohol. (It’s fair to say he’d never quite recovered from being stabbed in the leg with a hay fork by a drunken farmhand as a youngster).
Wheeler’s legacy would not turn out to be an alcohol-free America, but he did create the world’s first pressure group, so at least his efforts weren’t completely in vain.
