Established in 1886, the Louisville District was formed with its first mission to construct navigation improvements at the Falls of the Ohio in Louisville, Kentucky. The Ohio River dropped 26 feet in a little more than two miles at the Falls making year-round navigation nearly impossible and dangerous.
Today the Louisville District has several missions to include civil works, like navigation and flood damage reduction; military construction; a nationwide Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve mission; environmental restoration; interagency and international services and emergency operations.
