In the original draft of the screenplay for 1964’s Mothra vs. Godzilla, the story began with Godzilla’s body washing ashore after a storm instead of Mothra’s egg. Reporter Ichiro Sakai and two scientists discovered the corpse, leading to a plot about human greed and political tension with the fictional nation of Rolisica. In this version, Rolisica, not the U.S. fired the Frontier Missiles against Godzilla. Mothra appeared only at the end of the movie to fight him, and her larva form was completely absent from the film. However, the final version of the movie changed these details, replacing Godzilla’s corpse with Mothra’s egg, minimizing Rolisica’s role, and placing more emphasis on the moral conflict between humanity, greed, and nature.
