The Evil of the Ring (Sauron/Mordor) theme is assigned to two categories: Mordor and The One Ring. It represents “the Ring’s character… (and its) effect on the world.” and “the most villainous inclinations of the Ring and for Mordor itself.”, as said by Doug Adams.
Like the other themes related to evil characters, The Evil of the Ring is based on the Evil leitmotif, consisting of three notes (C sharp, D, C), in opposition with the Good leitmotif (D, C, D), which is the base for the themes related to good characters. The separation of a semitone in the Evil leitmotif and of a tone in the Good one is recurrent in the melody of their correspondent themes.
In the ROTK, it combines with the History of the Ring theme, giving him a more menacing tone because of its minor key and reedy rhaita.
