Iain Petrie | "The little bird with the b and d wings": helping children who mix up the letters b and d @IKP1000 | Uploaded August 2020 | Updated October 2024, 19 hours ago.
My wife, Rosalba Petrie, has recently published "The little bird with the b and d wings", available as a paperback from Amazon.co.uk and worldwide as an ebook / Kindle version, and she asked me to produce some promotional animations of the characters. This video is my first attempt, using Cartoon Animator 4.
All of the artwork is her creation, and the music is "Vivacity" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

This is the first in a series of books designed to help children between the ages of 4 and 8 with reading and writing. Children often mix up the letters b and d when learning to read and write. This is common up to the age of 7 or 8 and also with children who have dyslexia.
This story of a little bird who learns to fly through understanding that his wings are shaped like the letters b and d will delight small children and will help them to visualise the difference between the two letters. This will help the child recognise the letters when reading and to produce them correctly when writing, through repeated exposure to and re-enforcement of the shape and structure of the letters in the context of a little bird struggling to learn to fly and to become independent.
The broader message of the story is that we can overcome frustrations and barriers in life through persistent exploration, especially with the support and help of friends and family.
