I had a request to make a book companion that went along with studying the Civil Rights movement. I knew immediately which book I would focus on.
This story follows Marlee, a girl who struggles to talk to anyone, who lives in Little Rock Arkansas at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Despite federal orders to integrate, the town of Little Rock refuses, choosing to close schools altogether rather than allow races to mix. This battle becomes more personal and dangerous that Marlee ever imagined and she discovers her voice carries more power than she ever imagined.
At its heart, The Lions of Little Rock is about the struggle within all of us to speak out or to remain silent on the most important issues.
