THE LIONS
By P B Taylor
I
Of all the cold world, I crave one for you
Whose heart lies elsewhere
We tried so tired for every sum
But nought was ever there
II
Our equation could never balance
The time was so short intensely ripe
Of course, it had all become an irrelevance
As we fought and lost the bitter fight
III
At last the long time wait seemed near
And other things did always pass
I tried again but you always had the fear
For our love lost ground so very fast
You had lived in a different age
And nothing quelled that soiled rage
London 1983
