Like any musical, constant changes and new material is shaped over years of development. These songs “cut from camp” represent a small handful of the many sequences written for The Lightning Thief. While none of these tunes made it into the final version, they represent a unique window into the process of making a musical. Hope you enjoy! — Rob Rokicki
2. PICK A SIDE
(Sarah Beth Pfeifer, James Hayden Rodriguez and Jalynn Steele)
Inspired by 1980’s action movie training montages, this was written for the two-act version and was in several workshops. Appearing at the top of the second act, the song was meant to show the larger global consequences of a war between the gods, along with the themes of children fighting their parents’ battles. Ultimately, we decided it was more important to focus on our core trio.
