While Tim still spends his days bored in an enclosure that’s far too small and offers no opportunity to dig, roam or hide, so much more would await him if he were given the chance to be relocated to us! After several intense days of veterinary assessments at the former Zoo Luján, watch this recap for a first check-in on some of our patients on-site. 🩺
In this reel:
🐯 You can see tigress Luna, who underwent surgery for a severe tail injury, slowly healing. She will remain on antibiotics and pain relief for a little longer, but she’s making steady progress.
🐻 Bear Gordo having bounced back beautifully from his assessment and continuing to show a lot of trust around the team.
🦁 Young lioness Lucy thriving, a standout for her healthy teeth and a glossy coat that speaks volumes about her condition - one of the rare cases amongst the other animals.
But not every case is straightforward. As one tiger struggled to recover from anaesthesia, he became dehydrated after lying down in the sun. Thanks to the quick thinking of our vets - and some creative rehydration methods - we can witness him back on his feet shortly after. ✨
With 32 patients treated by early November, this video celebrates the halfway point of the veterinary assessment, and we feel incredibly grateful to share this major success of the past weeks with you! 🙌

One year ago, we welcomed two very special lionesses to their forever home at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. 🧡
Watching Illiana and Tomoyo play with their rescueversary enrichment, it’s hard to believe they spent so much of their lives in a circus trailer in France. From the circus ring to the safety of LIONSROCK, their journey has been one of incredible resilience.
Illiana, who lives with chronic kidney disease, continues to amaze us with her adaptability and spirit. She is on a treatment and diet plan and our team closely monitors her condition to ensure she receives the best care possible. 💕
Tomoyo, who underwent two much-needed dental treatments within the past year, is otherwise in good health and thriving in her environment. 🌳
Witnessing these two lionesses rediscover their natural instincts such as pouncing, exploring and relaxing on their platforms, shows us first-hand what recovery and healing look like. 🐾

🌨️ Winter may be freezing in Arbesbach, but Mici is warming every heart here! ❄️🐻
Our brave new resident, Mici, is proving to be a true heroine. Moving to a new environment is always stressful for a bear, BUT Mici is approaching her new start fearlessly and with curiosity.
Recently, she moved into her new outdoor enclosure — and her caretakers couldn’t be prouder. ❤️
Without a moment of hesitation, she walked through the gates and began exploring her snowy surroundings with bright, curious eyes. ❄️
To help her settle in, the team created a scent trail leading her to her feeding areas — and she followed it like a pro! She even ventured back to the frozen pond and took another close look at the old rotten log that caught her attention before. After a full day of adventuring, she cozied up in her den to rest. 💤
What a remarkable change from the harsh winter she endured before her rescue. ❤️🩹
Our onsite team at the snowy BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach shares:
“We are over the moon that Mici is making such rapid progress.”
And so are we! 🌟
We couldn’t be prouder of this adorable bear who is finally discovering what it means to feel safe and to enjoy life to the fullest. 💚
However, our mission in Slovenia isn’t over yet. Another bear, Tim, is still living in cruel conditions in Slovenia. We’re calling on his owner to follow the compassionate example set by Mici and Felix owners, and finally give Tim the safe home he deserves at our sanctuary. 🌲

Flora, the smallest and most fragile tigress from the former Zoo Luján, was classified as an urgent case during our #EmergencyMissionArgentina. Due to severe deformities in the bones of her feet, resulting in abnormal claw growth, she requires specialised lifelong care. Without it, she faces a significantly increased risk of recurring ingrown claws, particularly in her hind limbs — causing severe and almost unbearable pain. 💔 Flora will also require further dental treatment in the future, along with an individually tailored nutrition plan. 📋
Our team is working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare her journey from Argentina to our FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary in the Netherlands and to ensure everything is in place for her safe rescue. ✈️

Today is a special day for an incredible group of lions here at LIONSROCK - The Romanian Five! 🐾 (also known as the FELIDA Five)
🎉The young lions Roman, Vincent, Dolf, Ellie and Geena 🦁 turned 7 years old today and our animal welfare team and volunteers made their day extra special! 🤩
The quintuplets were rescued by FOUR PAWS from private keeping in Romania and taken to @felida.bigcatsanctuary in the autumn of 2021.
Now, they thrive in their spacious species-appropriate environment to the fullest here at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary.
We wish these beautiful young lions many more birthdays to come! 🎂

But everything changed thanks to a powerful public campaign led by our team. Felix’s owners made the compassionate decision to give him the future he truly deserved. 🐻
🌟 In May 2025, Felix took the most important journey of his life—to his new forever home at BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach.
And look at him now! ✨
Felix is thriving. He’s exploring his spacious new habitat, swimming with joy, and indulging in delicious treats. His appetite is great, and he’s smartly packing on the pounds for winter. ❄️
