This little non-monetized YouTube channel has become a catalyst for meeting all sorts of fellow adventurers. Nearly all of my friends these days are people I’ve met through a shared love of hiking, backpacking, and climbing here in Arizona. I’ve crossed paths with hundreds of people on trail, but none have been quite as interesting—or as inspirational—as Mike “Old School.”

Mike’s unique outlook on life reminds me to appreciate what’s truly our most valuable resource: time. As Mike often says, you can’t give it away… but you can choose to share it.

In this video, Mike and I spend a morning out on Coyote Rock—also known as “Greever’s Needle”—in the Goldfield Mountains, just outside Apache Junction across from the western edge of the Superstition Wilderness. We get to hear directly from Mike about his philosophy on adventure, life, and the preciousness of time itself.
