There was, an idea . . .

I’m sure we’re all more than aware of it by now.

Our modern media landscape has changed dramatically over the last ten years, and I think it’d be hard to argue that the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t played a part in it. It’s been one of the biggest cinematic juggernauts of the last decade, making well over 7.5 billion dollars in US box office revenue alone before endgame, and not only helped popularize an entire genre, but also revitalized an entire model of storytelling whose influence has bled into media well beyond the scope of what anyone could have predicted. And, more than anything else, it’s delivered a whole slew of characters and stories that people, for the most part, have connected with, myself included. It’s kinda crazy when you think about it, and there’s so much to talk about, that it can be hard to wrap your head.

So, in this unnecessarily long video essay series, I want to, try, and do just that. From its humble beginnings to the productions of those following in its footsteps to its corporate expansions, I want to look back and discuss my thoughts on the way the MCU has developed over the years and how it’s influenced it’s had on our modern media landscape, for better, and for worse.

Today, and hopefully every other day for the next while, I want to talk about the Legacy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
