Jack Johnson boxed professionally from 1897 to 1928 and engaged in exhibition matches until 1945. He won the title by knocking out champion Tommy Burns in Sydney on December 26, and later defeated challenger and former champ Jim Jefferies in what's known at "The Fight Of The Century". Jack paved the way for many champs after him and help set the tone for standing up against white supremacy.
